Wendy Taylor Dung Beetles at Murray Edwards College

murrayedwardsdungbeetle-02 I’m currently attending the 145th European Study Group with Industry, this year’s UK version being held at Cambridge University (if anyone is interested I’m in the group looking at monitoring the flow of chemicals from crop treatment in groundwater). I’m being put up in some lovely accommodation at Murray Edwards College, and every morning have the delight of the following view on my way to breakfast:

I did (of course, given my professional obsession with insects) need to investigate closer and discovered that this is an installation by Wendy Taylor, “Three Dung Beetles”, fashioned in bronze.

As a finishing aside, elsewhere in the college are other impressive sculptures and artwork, but  “Cow Says Moo” particularly caught my attention:

Mathematician at the University of Warwick in the UK with research interests in equivariant bifurcation theory and applications, especially in modelling of insect locomotion. Teaching interests include online learning and innovative teaching methods. Also in a past life has been involved in summer school courses, and online material, for Gifted and Talented.
